Lessons from Devarim

This week's Torah reading, the first parsha (portion) of the 5th book of Moshe (Devarim), has this invaluable lesson in the text:

Devarim: 21, 26-28: (Moses says) "See - Adonoy, your God, has placed the Land before you; go up and possess, as Adonoy, God of your forefathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear and do not lose resolve."

...But you did not want to ascend, and you rebelled against the word of Adonoy, your God. You slandered in your tents and said, "Because of Adonoy's hatred for us did He take us out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorite to destroy us. To where shall we ascend? Our brothers (the spies) melted our hearts, saying, 'A people larger and taller, with cities fortified to the heavens; children of giants have we seen there!'"

The lesson to be learned from this is that we must not lose our resolve despite the liberal media constantly reporting how big and bad Hezballah is, and how Israel cannot win engaging them on the ground because they are expert guerilla fighters, and how this was the site of Israel's "Vietnam", and how the moslems fight dirty, and how in Gaza the Arab street is inflamed, and Al Qaida is declaring yet another jihad, and Iran is going to wipe Israel off the map, and world opinion is against us, and yada, yada, yada...

The reality, of course, is that Israel can crush the vermin, just as the Children of Israel in the wilderness could easily have crushed the Amorites back in the time of Moshe, and entered the Land after the second year of leaving Egypt instead of being punished with 38 more years of wandering.

If we remain strong and true to God's promise, and demonstrate the resolve (stomach?) to do what must be done, and destroy the enemy before us despite the false alarms from the liberals of the EU and the UN, than we will absolutely be victorious in this war. The key, of course, is that we must not be our own worst enemies, yet again, as we have been for the past 3,300 years, and finally do what's necessary to take back what is ours, eliminate the vile, Jew-hating enemy that seeks our destruction, and ascend!

Shabbat Shalom.
